Most Sydney homeowners pay between $1,500 and $4,500 for a new garage door supplied and installed. The final price depends on the door type, size, material and whether you add an automatic opener. The ranges below are indicative only. Every home is different, which is why we quote after a free on-site inspection.
Garage door prices by type
These are typical supplied-and-installed ranges we see across Sydney in 2026 for a standard double door:
- Sectional garage doors: $1,800 to $4,500. The most popular choice for Sydney homes. Colorbond finishes sit at the lower end, timber-look and custom panel profiles at the upper end. See our sectional door range.
- Roller garage doors: $900 to $2,500. The most budget-friendly option, ideal where ceiling space is limited.
- Tilt garage doors: $1,500 to $3,500. A single-panel classic. Pricing varies with cladding material, since tilt doors are often customised to match the house facade.
- Cedar and timber garage doors: $4,000 to $10,000+. Premium natural timber for high-end street appeal. Price depends on timber grade, size and finish.
- Commercial roller shutters: from $2,500. Priced per project based on opening size, motor duty cycle and security requirements.
What changes the price
Two identical-looking doors can be quoted very differently. The main factors:
- Size. A single door (roughly 2.4 m wide) costs significantly less than a double (4.8 m or wider). Non-standard openings need custom-made doors.
- Material and finish. Standard Colorbond is the baseline. Timber-look laminates, powder-coated custom colours and real cedar all add cost.
- Insulation. Insulated panels reduce noise and heat transfer, useful for garages under living areas, and add a few hundred dollars.
- Automation. A quality automatic opener adds roughly $600 to $1,600 installed, depending on the motor. Our guide to choosing a garage door opener breaks this down.
- Removal of the old door. Taking down and disposing of an existing door is usually a modest add-on. Confirm it is included in any quote you compare.
- Structural work. If the opening, lintel or tracks need repair before a new door can go in, that work is quoted separately.
Repair or replace?
If your existing door is structurally sound, a repair is often the smarter spend. Spring replacement, new cables, rollers or a new motor typically cost a fraction of a new door. Our post on broken garage door springs covers the most common repair. As a rule of thumb: if the door is over 20 years old, rusting, or repairs keep recurring, replacement usually wins on value.
How to get an accurate price
Be cautious of firm prices quoted over the phone without measurements. A reliable quote needs the opening measured, the headroom and side room checked, and the condition of existing tracks and framing assessed. We do this as a free on-site inspection anywhere in Sydney, from Castle Hill to Mosman, and give you a fixed written quote with no obligation.
Frequently asked questions
How long does installation take?
A standard replacement is usually done in half a day. Custom doors or jobs needing structural work can take longer.
Is a cheaper door from a hardware store worth it?
DIY kits can suit sheds, but for a family home the door is a large moving object under spring tension. Professional installation protects the warranty and, more importantly, your safety.
Do prices include GST?
